60 DEGREES!!!
And so BEAUTIFUL!
I could live there....in the winter that is!

We had such a relaxing time, doing absolutely nothing! No laundry, no schedules, no school, no homework, no basketball games, no dance classes.....nothing but lots of swimming, basking in the sun at the park, hiking, golfing, golf ball hunting, movie watching, and playing as a family.

It was exactly what we all needed!
While swimming one day, I encountered a celebrity! Now, I have seen a few celebrities in my day....Alicia Keys, Martin Short, Karl Malone (is he a celebrity?) and more.....but I was most excited about this sighting. (Any of you that are true bloggers would agree.)
Into the pool area walked C Jane and her family! If you don't know C Jane and her family - you must click on her name and read her amazing and incredibly funny blog. When I saw her my initial reaction was to run up and give her a hug. Tell her what an incredible person I think she is, what an amazing writer, mother, and sister she is. How amazing she is for taking care of her sister's kids. How adorable her baby is in person, etc. etc. But my insecurities set in and I felt like I needed to give her family privacy. Instead I just gave her a big smile that I hoped portrayed my feelings.
One other exciting moment on our trip was picking up a little yorkie puppy for my sis-in-law. We thought it would be the perfect way to give our kids their "dog fix" since they can't stop begging for one.
Oh, how it backfired!
We wrongly took the kids with us to pick out the dog.....there were four of the cutest puppies wanting to be loved. So, obviously my kids thought we should take one home as well! We tried to explain that this wasn't a "spur of the moment" decision to make, and that although they were so cute - having a dog comes with much responsibility! This all fell on deaf ears because my kids bawled for a straight hour after leaving the dogs.
We are not talking just a little sniffling... we are talking about complete and utter crying! They were devastated, and we are definitely now "the meanest parents in the world".

Now, it is not that I don't like dogs....I don't mind them. It is just the fact that I have five kids -and I know that this dog will eventually become "my resposibility". I feel a little overwhelmed with my resposibilities as they are - that I am not sure I can add a dog in the mix. I can barely find a babysitter for my kids - and I don't even want to think about having to find a babysitter for my dog too. So, I would love to hear from you that have dogs.....do you recommend it??

Shalice, I must say that when I saw you at the pool I said to my sister-in-law Suze that you looked familiar. I must know you through Lindsay?
I also thought, if I looked like that mom in her bathing suit I'd totally hit the water. Really, I did.
It was fun watching your beautiful family enjoy the pool. And your baby is gorgeous. Next time lets meet up and hit the outdoor pool. Everyone tells me it is spectacular.
Look at you Ms. Johnny on the spot...already home and blogging. Maybe you can handle a dog??? Also, still mad you didn't talk to CJane!! But look now you guys are best friend on your comment board...very cool!!!
I need Ava's cheeks! She is so flippin' cute! I love the pictures of her standing on Brandon's hands! What a fun trip!
First of all-- MOVE HERE!! You would love it. Summers aren't so bad! You just swim everyday! :)
Second- I would whole-heartedly recommend a dog, but NOT a puppy. Puppies are so cute, but not fun to train when you have lots of kids! They require more time than you have to give, and you start resenting the poor little things. I would recommend getting an older dog (that's what we did). He was already trained, and I knew what his personality was like. No chewing, biting, barking, etc. I basically "doggy interviewed" until I found the perfect dog for our family. He is AWESOME, and so good with my kids.
Sorry I wrote a book here!!
You made the right decision!! Dogs are a lot of work, and he would be your responsibility--I know, I got roped into buying one from Rob's grandma, remember? Crying girls praying for a puppy didn't help. And sure, they love him (Rob really loves him) but who actually takes care of him?. . .ME. Just yesterday I had to clean up dog puke--DOG PUKE!! I don't even do well with my kids puke. Walk away. . .just walk away. That is my opinion.
I probably wouldn't have said a word either:)
As for the animal thing. It was a blessed relief when we had to get rid of Sambo when we moved to hawaii... but my kids have never let us live it down. WE MISS SAMBO! I heard.. several times a week.
So when a cat showed up at our house.. as much as I detest cats.. i let him stay. Can I just say that cats are SOOOO MUCH easier than dogs? having to change a litter box once a day versus having to remember to take the dog out 5 times a day is a piece of cake. (and believe me... my carpet suffered the consequences of my memory lapses) My kids are in heaven with him.. Paisley carries him around for most of the day. And I'm back on Allegra.
There's my two cents -- from a reformed cat hater.
I say no to dogs. I had two growing up. Our backyard, which was beautiful, became a potty for the dog. Nobody wanted to go back there anymore. It stinks finding someone to watch it while you vacation. Or even if you are away from the house to long, you never know what you will find on your floor. Something about cleaning pets messes is a lot more discusting than your our kids accidents. Out of the two of them, I liked the puppy. You can train it the way you like. My older dog had to be retrained and came with emotional problems..
No way, no dog! We had one once and it was such a pain in the bum. Escape artist, trapeze artist - I would get calls from the nearby school asking if we had a dog named Daisy. In my PJ's I'd go driving around the neighborhood trying to get that DA*& dog back in our house. I hated that thing, and it was Mark's birthday present from the shelter. We tried to do a good thing & never again.
Sorry! I'm the wrong one to ask! haha
Glad you were able to get a way out of this yuck!
Shalice! HOw fun to find your blog! (I got it off Facebook.) We took a trip to St George this same time last year and it was glorious. I'm glad you got away. Your family is adorable!
I love the picture of Brandon, cheerleading stunt, with Ava!
Sorry, I can't help you with the dog thing. And cool....now CJane knows who YOU are! I love her comment about you in a swimsuit! I would have thought that same thing!!
