Kids Really Do Say The Darndest Things!

I love Primary and get the great opportunity to do sharing time (teaching all of the children in our church under the age of 12) every few months. This past month our theme was on prayer. I was teaching the kids about the Prophet Enos from the Book of Mormon.

I held a picture up of Enos and asked if anyone knew who this was.

A child in the back raised her hand and answered: "That is Enos."

"Right", I said, "This is the prophet Enos" (pointing to the picture)

And then I heard this statement from a little 7 year old boy on the front row: "What?, The prophet penis??" (With a very confused look on his face)

"No, the prophet E.N.O.S!" I repeated quickly

It was all I could do to not fall to the ground with laughter. Luckily, only his teacher and a couple of other younger kids heard him say it....so I was able to quickly move on.

I had the biggest smile on my face for the rest of the sharing time - and couldn't quit hearing this hilarious statement being repeated over and over in my head.

So, for all of you parents out there that teach your children the proper anatomical terms for their body parts.....Great Job!

I will just make sure I don't teach about the Prophet Enos for a while, or at least enunciate his name a little better next time!

Schedules here we come!

With the first day of school beginning, I have a few emotions:

First: saddness to see the summer ending. This summer has definitely been interesting...I am not sure I would recommend having a baby the day school gets out! It makes for a long month and a half when your kids want to be entertained, but you don't feel like entertaining. The last half of the summer was much better.

Second: I love warm weather. I love the fall even more, but it never stays long enough. I am not ready to brave the freezing cold...and I know that is coming. I also love nights of playing outside until 9:00....the days are getting shorter, and that means cold weather is coming :(

Third: I am so ready for a schedule! I love spontaneity....but I think I love having a schedule a little more! It makes it so my kids go to bed at a decent hour, we get back on our routine of scriptures, prayers, exercise (oh, wait...haven't done that yet!), and although it is crazy....it seems normal!

My kids were so ready for school to start, they were craving a schedule as well. Too bad everyday cannot be the first day of school, where they are so excited they jump out of bed, make their bed, get their clothes on, and ready for school before I even ask!






Halle went to school for 30 minutes to meet her Kindergarten teacher....such a tease to do to a child who has been waiting for years to go to school like her brother and sister. So, she will start next week - so anti-climatic! (I can't believe she is in Kindergarten....I remember taking Kason to Kindergarten like it was yesterday - and now he is in 5th grade!)

So, here is to schedules beginning. I am sure I will write a post in a couple of months about how crazy our schedule is and that I am ready for summer again. But until then.......Happy Back To School everyone!

End of the Year

School has been out for a week, but I had to post about a few of the last school events.

First of all, Jaicee and Kason both took second place out of their entire grades for the "field day run." I was so proud of both of them. I knew Kason was a fast runner, but Jaicee totally surprised me. I told her that when she plays soccer next, no slowing down....since I now know she is fast! They both did great in school this year, and I am so proud of how hard they worked!

Next, Halle graduated from preschool. She loved going to school, and wished it was every day like her brother and sister. Her teacher Mrs. Taylor was great, and now she gets to ride the bus to kindergarten. She can't wait!

Jaicee had her dance recital. She was on a competition team this year, and did such a great job. She loves performing the most.


We have been to many, many baseball and soccer games for Kason. Braden loves to put on all the gear...it is a good way to entertain, especially by the fourth hour of a baseball double header!

Oh yea, and my sister had her baby...Seth Douglas. He was 7 lbs. 8 oz, and is such a beautiful boy!

Sorry about the lengthy post. It has been a busy May, and I haven't been able to "record" it all down. Now that May is over, we are ready to have our baby! Monday is the day....so look in the next few days to see our newest addition. We still have no idea on a name...hopefully we will be inspired at the hospital.

What a Difference an Hour Makes!

Sunday mornings are crazy around our house. Our church is at 9:00 am, and it is always a challenge to get everyone ready (especially having to do two girls hair), and on time to church. We usually end up with a few tears, and the girls always seem to change their dresses two or three times. So, it feels like no matter what time we start getting ready, it is never enough time! And, to think that I have another little girl coming that will need her hair done, and I am sure will change her dress a few times is slightly overwhelming! Brandon never has understood the need to have the girls hair cute for church. I just feel like it is the ONE day that we can at least all look a little "put together"!

A couple of weeks ago we had church at 10:00 instead of 9:00. I couldn't believe what a difference it made to have an extra hour in the morning. We were all ready...including me...and even had time for a Sunday picture. Amazing! And, we were only 2 minutes lates for church. That is an accomplishment.

I wonder if we always had church at 10:00, would I feel the same way? I am sure we would fall into our crazy Sunday morning routine all over again!

Play Time

Don't you remember as a child building forts? I loved doing this, especially at my gradma's house with all her chairs. My girls have also found a love for this. I am not sure that I always love them building forts, for the sole reason that they seem to have to use 10 blankets, and all the hair elastics....and I usually clean most of the blankets up. This particular day, however, Kason joined in the fun and they built an incredible fort. They were so creative with how to get all of the blankets to stay up - and covered the entire room. They had a huge area underneath which they slept in that night. I love when my kids entertain themselves and create something that they have to really think of. Kids at play are the greatest!

Can you see their little heads? This time they really did use every blanket/sheet in the house!

Happy Sounds

The latest thing that makes me smile is this:

Happy, loud, boisterous singing to their ipods. Kason, Jaicee, and Halle can be frequently found singing their favorite song VERY emphatically while listening to their ipod. Kason's song of choice is "Low" by Flo-rida (not sure if that is a good one for a 10 year old to listen to), Jaicee's is any Hannah Montana song, and Halle's is "Popular" from Wicked. They all know every word - including Halle. It always makes me happy inside to see hear them singing their heart out and feeling confident that they must be one of the best singers in the world! Don't you remember thinking "Boy I sound good" when loudly singing to your "walkman"? It is such a freeing feeling - I think I need to try to sing my heart out to my ipod a little more often!
